Through a survey at the 2008 Conservation Connections Forum, an annual networking event that facilitates co-operation and communication among the many organizations working on environmental stewardship and conservation projects in the Capital Region, we learned that environmental groups are interested in learning how they can engage more diverse communities and build more welcoming and inclusive workplace environments.

In response to this and thanks to a grant from the Settlement and Multiculturalism Division, Ministry of Attorney General MEEP has partnered with the Community Council to deliver a pilot project focusing on consultation workshops, community presentations and training tools addressing how we can create a more welcoming and inclusive environmental community.

For For Phase I of the project, the following 5 environmental groups are taking the lead to look at how their workplaces and programs can be more welcoming and inclusive:

Greater Victoria Compost Education Centre
The Dogwood Initiative
Habitat Acquisition Trust
Sierra Club of BC
Victoria Car Share Co-op

At the end of the project we will distribute a Best Practices Training Tool for environmental groups in BC and across Canada. Stay tuned for details!
